Canada Work Permit For Indians: Indian students who go to study in Canada are also given job opportunities here, through which they can gain Canadian work experience. However, to get a work permit in Canada, students have to prove that they know English.
Canada has been the first choice of Indians for studying abroad, that is why more than four lakh Indian students are studying here. One reason for choosing Canada for higher education is that job opportunities are also provided here after studies. However, ‘Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’ (IRCC) has made changes regarding the Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP), under which now it is necessary for the students to have a command or proficiency in English and French languages.
PGWP in Canada is given to those students who have graduated from a Canadian university. Through this, students get a chance to gain work experience in Canada. Usually PGWP is valid for one to three years. The best thing is that after working on PGWP, the chances of getting Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada also increase. Let us understand how much IELTS score a student needs to get PGWP.
What is the IELTS score required for PGWP?
ccording to the International Development Programme (IDP), the organising body of IELTS, the minimum IELTS score required for PGWP varies depending on the level of the course and the field studied. University graduates (Bachelors, Masters and PhDs) are required to achieve a minimum band score of 6.0 in all four sections of the IELTS General Training Exam. IELTS has four sections, which include Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.
Which field of study is required to obtain PGWP?
IRCC has informed that the students pursuing courses related to which field will be given PGWP. These fields have been selected on the basis that there is a shortage of workers in them. In total, there are five such categories in which there is a labor shortage and students studying courses related to these fields will be able to easily get PGWP.
These fields include agriculture and agri-food, healthcare, ‘science, technology, engineering and maths’ (STEM) trades and transport. Students whose courses are not related to these fields may face difficulties in getting PGWP.
