The weather is going to deteriorate in Himachal Pradesh. Bad weather is expected in the state for the next six days. The Meteorological Center Shimla has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and snowfall for February 20. Along with this, a warning of thunderstorm and lightning has also been issued. Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall in the state.
According to the weather department forecast, there is a possibility of snowfall in Shimla, Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts. Apart from this, snowfall can also be seen in other high altitude areas. Heavy snowfall in hilly areas can affect life and roads may also be blocked at some places.
The weather will remain bad from 21 to 25 February
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in the state will remain bad between 21 and 25 February. During this time, light to moderate snowfall may occur in the mountainous areas. However, no special alert has been issued for these days, but rain and snowfall will cause a drop in temperature and the effect of cold may increase further.
Freezing cold in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, temperature below zero
The hilly areas are already experiencing severe cold. Especially in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, the temperature remains below zero. The minimum temperature in Kukumseri of Lahaul-Spiti district was recorded at -5.4 degrees Celsius, while it was -7.3 in Tabo and -6.3 degrees Celsius in Keylong. The minimum temperature in Manali was 2.9 degrees, while it was 7.5 degrees Celsius in Shimla. In the last 24 hours, the average minimum temperature in the entire state has dropped by 0.1 degrees Celsius. It is clear from this drop that the cold may increase further in the coming days.
Meanwhile, most parts of the state are cloudy on Wednesday. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will change from this evening. Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, there may be rain and snowfall in various parts of the state.
The Meteorological Department has advised the local administration and the general public to remain alert. Tourists and locals, especially those traveling in hilly areas, need to be cautious. Snowfall and rain can make many roads slippery and traffic may be affected.
Director of Meteorological Centre Shimla Kuldeep Srivastava said that cold is likely to increase in the state for the next few days. He said that an orange alert for heavy rain and snowfall has been issued on February 20. People have been advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
