Water Metro in India: The country’s first water metro is about to start in Kochi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start it by showing the green flag on 25 April. It will cover 15 routes.
The country’s first water metro will connect 10 islands. According to the information given by the officials, it will be started with eight electric hybrid boats.
Officials believe that with its introduction, transportation will be of great help and ease of commuting. This will help in decongesting the existing transport network.
It will provide the cheapest travel through the back waters of Kochi. CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that the water metro will bring a big revolution in the water transport sector in the state.
The Water Metro will come with an affordable price tag. Kochi Metro’s Managing Director Loknath Behera said that it will run on 15 routes and cover a distance of 75 km.
Apart from single trip tickets, commuters can also avail weekly, monthly and quarterly passes in the water metro. This service will be available every 15 minutes.
It will provide a comfortable journey and will be completely safe. The total cost of the project is Rs 1,137 crore. The German funding agency KfW and the state government have funded the project.
