The President gave his approval on 5 April

Let us tell you that after passing from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, President Draupadi Murmu approved the Waqf Amendment Act on 5th April. After getting the President’s approval, it became a law. In Rajya Sabha, 128 votes were cast in favour of this bill and 95 votes were cast against it. Whereas in Lok Sabha, after a long debate, 288 votes were cast in favour of this bill and 232 votes were cast against it.

Muslim organizations are protesting

Many Muslim organizations have protested against the Waqf Amendment Act 2025. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and other organizations say that this law is an attack on the autonomy and religious freedom of Waqf properties. They argue that changes such as including non-Muslim members in the Waqf Board and Central Waqf Council, removing the ‘Waqf by User’ provision, and giving the District Collector the right to determine the ownership of Waqf properties are against the interests of the Muslim community.

Owaisi called it unconstitutional

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi called it “unconstitutional” and said it was a conspiracy to destroy Waqf properties instead of protecting them. The AIMPLB called it “dangerous for Waqf” and demanded its complete rejection.

Petition filed in SC

The organizations believe that this is an attempt by the government to increase control over Waqf properties and weaken the Muslim community. Petitions have also been filed in the Supreme Court against this, including by Congress MP Mohammad Javed and Owaisi. However, the government claims that this law is to increase transparency and accountability.
