Indian Railways Waiting Ticket Rules: Whenever we have to travel from one place to another, we look at how to travel. Some choose the bus, some prefer to travel by air, while many people travel by their own vehicle, but among all these, a large section of Indians prefer to travel by train.

But if you want to travel by train or are about to travel, then know that do not travel with a waiting ticket. Indian Railways has a rule regarding this and there is also a provision to impose a fine on those who do not follow this rule. Therefore, one should avoid traveling with a waiting ticket. So let us know how much fine can be imposed on you if you travel by train with a waiting train ticket.

Actually, if you want to travel by train, you need a confirmed train ticket. Apart from this, if you have an RAC train ticket, you can still travel by train, but traveling with a waiting ticket is prohibited.

If you have booked a train ticket online, then as per the rules, this ticket gets automatically cancelled from the railway portal. You do not have to cancel it separately. Whereas, if you have bought a train ticket from the ticket counter, then this ticket does not get cancelled.

This much is the fine:-

Sleeper coach

  • Many people board the train with waiting tickets. If you travel in sleeper coach with waiting ticket, then you have to pay a fine of Rs. 250 as per the rules. Also, you have to pay the fare from where you boarded the train to where the TTE catches you or till the point where you have to travel.

AC Coaches

  • If a person boards an AC coach and has a waiting ticket, then he has to pay a fine of Rs 440. You also have to pay the fare from where you boarded to your destination.
