Visa Free Entry : Are you also planning to visit Sri Lanka? If yes, then there is good news for you as Indians can enter Sri Lanka visa free till 31 October. The Sri Lankan government has announced to allow visa-free travel to citizens of 35 countries for 6 months.
These include many major countries including India, UK and US. This decision has been taken by the Cabinet and this new policy will come into effect from 1 October 2024.
According to Sri Lanka’s Tourism Ministry advisor Harin Fernando, this policy will be applicable for the next six months. The countries that get the facility of visa-free travel include India, Britain, China, America, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Australia, Denmark, Poland, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Nepal, Indonesia, Russia and Thailand. Apart from this, citizens of Malaysia, Japan, France, Canada, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Israel, Belarus, Iran, Sweden, South Korea, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and New Zealand can also take advantage of the visa-free policy.

Earlier, there was a controversy over increasing visa fees on arrival in Sri Lanka. However, tourists coming from India, China, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia were already getting free visa facility in Sri Lanka. This initiative of the Sri Lankan government has been taken with the aim of promoting tourism in the country and attracting more and more foreign tourists.
