US H-1B Visa Limit: H-1B visa is most popular among Indians for working in America. Every year only 65 thousand H-1B visas are issued, but the majority of those who receive it are Indian citizens. People who receive this visa have a higher chance of getting a green card.
US H-1B Visa: Lakhs of people from India are working in America, most of whom have H-1B visa. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has said that the fixed limit of H-1B visa for the financial year 2025 has been completed. This includes 65,000 visas under the regular quota and 20,000 additional visas (master cap) for those pursuing higher education in America. This means that now new people will not get H-1B visa for the time being.
However, USCIS has also clarified that some options are open for those who are already working in the US on H-1B visa. They can apply to extend the duration of their visa, change job conditions, change employers or companies, and work on multiple H-1B positions simultaneously. USCIS says that it will process these applications. This means that Indians who fall into these categories can apply for these jobs related to H-1B visa.
You will get a notification if your application is not accepted
USCIS has said that those whose applications for H-1B visa will not be accepted will soon be notified through their online account. In case of applications not being accepted, ‘Not Selected: Not selected – not eligible to file an H-1B cap petition based on this registration’ will appear in the online account. In simple language, this means that you cannot apply for H-1B visa.
In which cases is the H-1B visa quota not applicable?
Actually, H-1B visas are issued in a fixed number, but there are some special cases where the visa quota does not apply. In such cases, applications will continue to be accepted by USCIS. This includes extending the visa period for existing H-1B visa holders, changing job conditions, changing employer/company or allowing to work at multiple places simultaneously. People included in this category can apply to USCIS.
Declining H-1B visa sponsorship
The US H-1B visa program allows American companies to hire foreign nationals to do jobs that require high skills and knowledge. Usually people are hired in the IT, engineering and finance sectors through this visa. USCIS data shows that American companies, especially tech companies, have reduced H-1B visa sponsorship. However, the number of Indians getting H-1B visas is still high.
