In the SOP issued by the corporation, it has been clarified that the benefit of ESI will be available only to those outsourced workers whose maximum salary limit is Rs 21 thousand per month. In this, the worker’s contribution will be 0.75 percent while that of the employer (outsourcing agency) will be 3.25 percent.

Standards set in SOP

Standards have been set for outsourcing agencies and workers in the SOP. Under this, outsourcing agencies are required to register themselves in the ESI sub-regional office related to their area of work in the state and obtain the ESI code and sub-code of their agency, so that the medical facilities and claims of the aggrieved worker can be settled in that area itself.

It will be necessary for the agency to obtain the previously allotted insurance number and other information in Form-1 from all its employees. The agency will issue e-identity card of its employees after verifying their photo. The agency will have to send the information of accidents caused by its employees while working on the ESI portal on time. The ESI contribution of all its employees and the employer’s contribution will have to be deposited on time.

Let us tell you that during the talks with the Power Corporation, the employee organizations had told that in case of injury, disability or death in an accident, the outsourcing employees do not get the benefits of the facilities provided by ESI and neither are these employees made aware about the facilities provided by ESI. As a result, in case of an electrical accident, compensation is demanded at the corporation level.
