UPI has become a popular medium for online transactions today. With the help of UPI, transactions are easily completed with just entering a PIN. Many times people do UPI transactions in a hurry and in such a situation, on entering any mobile number or UPI ID, the money reaches the wrong person. In such a situation, how can you get back the money sent to the wrong UPI number? Let us know.
If money goes from UPI to a wrong account then you should follow some steps.
Inform the bank
If the money has gone to a wrong account, then first of all you should inform it to the bank and explain the entire matter. You can also give this complaint to the bank through email and in writing. Apart from this, inform about this matter to the UPI app (like GooglePay, PhonePe and Paytm) which you have used.
Tell me soon
You should not cause any delay if money goes to a wrong account through UPI or any other online medium. The matter should be reported to the relevant authorities and agencies as soon as possible. This helps in taking further action quickly.
Banking Ombudsman
You can also complain to the Banking Ombudsman if the bank fails to take any action when money is transferred from UPI to the wrong account. This may help you get your money back.
Contact NPCI
If no action is being taken on your case even after informing the bank and the Bank Ombudsman, then you can also go to NPCI and complain. Let us tell you, the entire UPI network is operated by NPCI itself. It has been formed by the Reserve Bank of India.
