Union Education Ministry has abolished the ‘No Detention Policy’, Failed students will not be promoted

No Detention Policy End: The central government has ended the ‘No Detention Policy’ today i.e. on Monday, 23 December 2024. Under this decision, now the students who fail in the annual examination of class 5 and 8 will not be promoted but will be failed. 

Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, has given information about the decision of the Union Education Ministry. He told during the press conference that today we have decided that if detention is required even after trying in fifth and eighth, then detention should be done only after that.

What is the government’s motive behind this decision?

It also has a provision that children should not be expelled from schools up to class 8. He further said, “We want that the desire to learn should increase in every child and to achieve this, attention will be given to those children who are not good in studies due to some reason. Therefore, special attention will be given to them. After the change in the rule, this will be possible and the desire to learn will increase in children.”

After the ‘No Detention Policy’ ends, students who fail in the annual examination of class 5 and 8 will be failed. The failed students will get an opportunity to re-examine within two months and if they fail in this also, they will not be promoted to the next class. No student will be expelled from school.

You will have to give the exam again in two months

Now students who fail in class 5th and 8th will get a chance to take the exam again within two months of the result. But if they fail in this exam again, they will not be promoted. However, in such a situation, no school can expel any student till class 8th.
