UCC Implemented in Uttarakhand: Uttarakhand is set to take a historic step today. It is going to become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) after independence.
Just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uttarakhand, this important law will be formally announced at around 12:30 pm. Officials have confirmed that this law will be applicable in the entire state and will also be effective on the citizens of Uttarakhand living outside the state.
UCC portal will be unveiled in the state secretariat
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will lead this historic event. The UCC portal will also be unveiled during the program, which will play a major role in the implementation of this law. Chief Minister Dhami called this decision a big step towards social harmony. According to him, UCC is a law that will end discrimination on the basis of religion, gender, caste or community and will work to connect the society on an equal basis.
Preparations for implementing UCC are complete
Chief Minister Dhami said that his government has made full preparations to implement UCC. He said, “We had promised the people of the state to bring UCC before the 2022 assembly elections. After the formation of the government, it was given priority. A draft was prepared on it, the Act was passed, and now we are formally implementing it. This step will realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘harmonious India’, in which all citizens will get equal rights and there will be no discrimination of any kind.”
Uttarakhand will become the first state after Goa
Even though UCC is already implemented in Goa, it was implemented there under the Portuguese Civil Code. Uttarakhand will be the first state to implement Uniform Civil Code after independence. The Chief Minister called it a matter of pride for the state and a new direction for the society.
What is Uniform Civil Code (UCC)?
UCC means that a uniform law will be applicable for all citizens in the state for marriage, divorce, adoption, division of property and other civil matters. Its purpose is to establish a uniform system in place of different personal laws for different religions and communities. Under this, it will be mandatory for couples living in marriage and live-in relationship to get registered.
symbol of a new beginning
The decision of the Uttarakhand government to implement UCC is a big step towards the development of the state and social equality. It will not only give equal rights to the citizens of the state but will also strengthen the foundation of an equal and harmonious society in India.
