On the other hand, the UK government has started a special campaign to protect Indian citizens from visa fraud. The name of this campaign is ‘Visa Fraud to Bachho’, which aims to protect Indian citizens from physical, financial and mental problems caused by illegal immigration including visa fraud. Through this campaign, people will also be made aware about the dangers of illegal migration and safe ways of legal migration.

WhatsApp support line launched

As part of this campaign, a WhatsApp support line has also been launched in English and Punjabi, the number of which is +91-70652-51380. This number will help in identifying the tactics commonly used for visa fraud and provide access to accurate and official guidance for those seeking legal ways to travel to the UK.

The campaign was launched at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in the presence of Chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Kumar Mittal. Apart from the WhatsApp line, the campaign also gave warning signs about visa fraud. During this, he said that people will be advised to be cautious of false claims such as promises of jobs in Britain and non-compulsory English-language tests (IELTS), and excessive fees. Due to visa, people often take unnecessary loans and are at risk of physical harm and exploitation.

10-year ban on visa fraudsters

A person committing visa fraud can be banned from travelling to the UK for up to 10 years. India and the UK have made a shared commitment to tackle illegal immigration under the ‘Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement’. This campaign is another step in the joint efforts to further the fight against illegal immigration and visa fraud.

What did the British Deputy High Commissioner say?
