According to the new datesheet released, the UGC NET exam will be conducted from 21 August to 4 September. At the same time, NCET 2024 exam will be held on July 10. The Joint CSIR UGC NET 2024 exam will be conducted from 25 to 27 July.

Meanwhile, the All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Examination (AIAPGET) 2024 will be held on July 6 as previously scheduled. Earlier, the June shift exam of UGC NET 2024 was conducted on June 18 in two shifts, however, the exam was cancelled on June 19. The exam was conducted on June 18 in two shifts in over 317 cities, for which over 9 lakh candidates appeared for the exam.

The education ministry had cancelled the exam a day after it was “successfully conducted” after the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the home ministry received information about the alleged paper leak. Addressing a press conference, education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that as soon as it became clear that the UGC-NET paper on the darknet matched the original UGC-NET paper, we decided to cancel the exam. We take responsibility and the system has to be rectified.

Moreover, after the CBI investigation, it was found that the paper was leaked on the darknet and other encrypted social media channels on June 16, just two days before the exam, and was sold for a price of over Rs 5 lakh. The paper cancellation also affected the CSIR UGC NET exam which was scheduled to be held from June 25 to 27. It was postponed by the education ministry “as an abundance of caution” in case the exam and the question paper were leaked on the dark web.

The UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year in June and December to determine eligibility for admission to Assistant Professor, Junior Research Fellowship and PhD programmes in Indian universities. This year, NTA conducted the UGC NET in pen-paper mode on behalf of UGC, however before the year 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) used to conduct the UGC-NET.
