TRAI’s message traceability rule has come into effect in the country from today i.e. 11 December. This will benefit 120 crore mobile users of the country. Through this, the telecom regulator recommended this rule to prevent fraud through SMS.
Through this rule, it will be easy to trace the sender of the message received on the user’s mobile. Now fake commercial messages sent by hackers will not reach the users. At the same time, the sender of the message can be easily found.
Already, the telecom regulator has implemented rules against unsolicited communication, under which messages coming from unverified sources will be blocked, which contain links to URLs or APK files. Apart from this, commercial calls coming from unverified numbers will also be blocked at the network level. This will help prevent cases of online fraud. Indian agencies are constantly trying to prevent fraud, but still the cases of fraud are not decreasing. According to a recent report, cases of online fraud in India have increased by up to 3,000 percent.
After the implementation of this rule, there will be no delay in receiving OTP on the user’s mobile. Along with this, the telecom operators argued that most of India’s telemarketers and business entities such as banks are not yet fully technically ready for the new rule, due to which the implementation of this rule will have a huge impact.
