According to the age, some children do not have to pay train tickets and some have to pay half ticket.

Children of this age will not need to buy train tickets

Half ticket is charged for children between 5 and 12 years of age
According to the rules of Indian Railways (Indian railway ticket for child), if your child is between 5 and 12 years of age and he is travelling with you in the train, then you will have to take his half ticket. But remember that children will not be given berth in half ticket, you will have to adjust them with you. If you want the child to get a separate seat, then you will have to take a full ticket for him.
If you want a seat for your child, you will have to pay the fare
Even if your child is old enough to travel with you for free, if you want him to get a full seat, you will have to buy a full ticket for him and if you want to save money, you will have to adjust him on your seat.
Full ticket for children 13 years and above
If your child is 13 years or older, you will have to buy a full ticket for him/her. The half ticket rule is only applicable for children between 5 and 12 years of age.
Document Verification and Ticket Booking
If you want to take advantage of this rule of the railways, then while booking tickets for children, you will have to provide their birth certificate and other identity documents. These documents are asked so that the actual age of the child can be known, and people do not take advantage of this rule by hiding the age of the child.
Penalty for travelling without ticket
If your child is more than 5 years old and you travel with him/her in the train without purchasing a ticket, you will have to pay a fine if you are caught. However, even if your child is less than 4 years old, you must keep the child’s birth certificate with you to prove it.
