Lakhs of people travel by Indian Railways every day. In such a situation, questions often arise about lower berths in the train. There is always a demand for lower berths especially for women, senior citizens and disabled passengers.
Now Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has taken a big decision on this issue. He has fixed the priority of lower berths for some special people, so that now only they will be given priority to give lower seats in the train.
According to the Railway Minister, preparations are being made to provide lower berth facility to women, senior citizens and disabled passengers on priority basis.
It is not possible for everyone to get a seat
The Railway Minister also said that the lower berths in the train are limited and hence it is difficult to provide these berths to everyone. But the Railways is trying to ensure that every effort will be made to provide these berths to the passengers who need them the most. The first priority of the Railways is women, senior citizens and Divyangs.
Reserved lower berths in trains
There is a fixed number of lower seats in every coach of railway train. There are 6 to 7 lower seats in sleeper coach. There are 4 to 5 lower berths in every coach of third AC. Whereas there are 3 to 4 lower seats in every coach of 2 AC. In such a situation, Indian Railways always gives priority to Divyang passengers so that they do not face any problem in going to the seat. 2 lower berths are reserved for them in sleeper coach. 4 lower berths in third AC and third economy, 4 seats in second seating or chair car are reserved for these people.
At the same time, if the lower berth remains vacant during the journey, then on priority basis it is given to senior citizens, disabled and pregnant women, who are on the middle or upper berths.
