Traffic Rules: After Delhi, now this strict rule has been implemented in this city too, police warning issued

MUMBAI: It has been made mandatory for all passengers traveling in a car to wear a seat belt from tomorrow i.e. 1st November 2022. On 14 October, the Mumbai Police had issued a notification stating that it would be mandatory for the driver and co-passengers to wear seat belts from 1 November 2022.

In its notification, the Mumbai Police said that whoever drives a motor vehicle without wearing a safety belt or carries passengers without a seat belt, will be punishable.

The Mumbai Police had also said that all motor vehicles which do not have seat belt facility will have to wear seat belts for all passengers. The due date for this was also fixed as November 1, 2022.

“All motor vehicle drivers and all passengers in vehicles, whoever travel on Mumbai city road, are hereby informed that, the seats for drivers and all passengers while traveling with effect from 01/11/22 Wearing a belt will be mandatory. Otherwise action will be taken under section 194(b)(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019.’

In September, to strengthen road safety rules, the Delhi Traffic Police had launched a special drive to encourage people to use rear seat belts. He was fined ₹1,000 for not wearing the belt.

The Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways had issued a draft rule making it mandatory for car manufacturers to install seat belt alarms on all seats of cars. Earlier in September, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said that from now on it will be mandatory for all passengers in a car to wear seat belts, including those in the rear seats, and that violating the rule will be fined.
