But do you know that in many countries, driving a car on the roads with an Indian driving license is allowed, even without an international driving permit from India?
Yes, Indian driving licenses are recognised in many countries. Indian citizens can drive in these countries without the need for an International Driving Permit (IDP). However, the validity and specific requirements of an Indian driving license may vary from country to country.

Singapore: Indian citizens in Singapore can drive without any hindrance on the Singapore DL for one year. However, the age to drive must be 18 years. The license must be in English, or you will have to get it translated.
UK: Indian citizens can drive on their driving licence in England, Wales and Scotland for up to a year. However, the UK allows drivers with Indian driving licences to drive only certain categories of vehicles.
America (USA): Most states in the US allow drivers from India to drive a rented car with an Indian driving license for up to a year. The license must be valid and in English, and you must carry the I-94 form, which records the date of entry into the US.
Malaysia: Indian citizens can also drive on DL in Malaysia. However, the Indian driving license must be in English or Malay and must be verified by the issuing authority or the Indian Embassy in Malaysia. If not verified, you will need an international driving license.
Hong Kong: Indian driving licences are valid for one year in Hong Kong too, and international driving licences are also accepted.
Germany: Indian drivers can drive in Germany with their Indian DL for up to six months. However, it is advisable to carry a German-translated copy of your license and an international driving permit.
Australia: Indian driving licenses are valid for three months in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory of Australia. DL should be in English only.
New Zealand: Indian citizens can drive in New Zealand on their driving license for one year. The age to drive a car here should be 21 years. The DL should be in English or a translated copy issued by the New Zealand Transport Agency.
Switzerland: Indian driving licences are valid for up to a year in Switzerland, but they must be in English when driving a rented car.
South Africa: Indian driving licenses printed in English are valid in South Africa. They require a photo and signature.
Sweden: Indian driving license is valid for one year in Sweden too. It must be in English, Swedish, German, French or Norwegian and must be accompanied by a valid or approved ID.
