Toll Tax: Will toll booths be removed from across the country? Now preparing to collect toll tax through GPS instead of Fastag

0

Toll plazas may be removed from across the country in the coming days. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is moving towards the use of new technology for toll collection. Automatic number plate recognition system and GPS based toll collection system are to be implemented within the next few months.

Meanwhile, experts from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have suggested that some stringent restrictions should be put in place towards making GPS mandatory in vehicles for toll collection. If possible, it should be linked to vehicle insurance. That is, the vehicle should be insured only when GPS is fitted.

Actually, currently toll collection is being done through Fastag, but all toll nakas will have to be removed when toll collection starts through GPS and automatic number plate recognition system. NHAI believes that a large number of people in the country will not install GPS in the vehicle or cover the number plate with any cloth or paper to avoid toll.

Similarly, many would like to avoid toll by rigging. Under such a situation, concrete arrangements should be made for toll collection through the new system. GPS should be added to the mandatory conditions of insurance for every vehicle to be fitted with GPS. If a vehicle does not have GPS and it is not active, then it should not be insured. If a person does not keep sufficient balance in the wallet attached to the vehicle according to the toll, then arrangements should be made to impose fine on him also.

Time-saving exercise: The Ministry wants that people should not get delayed in their travel due to toll plazas on all its National Highways and Expressways. At present, due to toll collection through FASTag, the time taken at toll has come down.

recovery plan in this way

Through GPS, it will be measured that how many kilometers the vehicle has driven on National Highway and Expressway. After that the number plate of the vehicle will be scanned through the cameras. Which will tell the system that which company’s FASTag wallet is installed in the vehicle. After that the toll will be deducted according to the distance.
