Toll Tax New Rule: You will not have to pay toll up to a distance of 20km, know rule here

The government is bringing a new system for toll collection. This system is going to give great relief to the people, because with this system there will be no need to pay toll for 20KM, otherwise earlier tax was collected at every toll plaza.

Apart from this, the hassle of stopping at toll plazas everywhere will also end. Toll tax will be collected through satellite.

Actually, a notification has been issued by the government. Under this notification, toll will be started soon through Global Navigation Satellite System. For this, the government has also done a trial on 4 highways. After the trial, the government has decided that now it will be implemented on highways and other places. The Road Transport Ministry has issued the rules.

How will this system work?

This new system of the government will be based on GPS. Toll tax will be collected from satellite with the help of GPS. As soon as the distance of 20 KM is completed, the toll will be deducted automatically. According to the notification, GPS will first be installed on the vehicles. A special lane will be prepared for vehicles with GNSSOBU and if other vehicles come on this lane, double toll will be charged from them. On the other hand, vehicles which do not have national permit will be allowed to travel 20 km in both directions in a day. According to the current rule, if a person travels from one toll to another, then the full fare has to be paid.

Rules for travelling more than 20 km

As stated in the notification, if a person travels on a highway, expressway, tunnel or bridge, then the journey up to 20 km will be free. This means that no toll tax will have to be paid, but if a person travels more than 20 km, then the toll will be charged according to the distance travelled. This means that toll will be charged for the entire distance.

If you commit this mistake, you will be charged double the amount.

There are plans to make a separate lane on highways and expressways for toll collection through Global Navigation Satellite System. It has been said in the notification that if vehicles without GPS enter this lane, double the toll tax will be charged from them.

How will the toll be deducted?

The satellite system will first find out the distance of your vehicle through GPS, then deduct the toll by recognizing your number plate, fastag or any other thing. The toll will be deducted automatically. You will be informed through SMS once the toll is deducted.

What will be the benefits of the new system?

  • Owners of private vehicles equipped with this device will not have to pay any fee for travelling up to 20 km daily on highways and expressways.
  • Compared to the current system, the toll tax deducted through the new system will be cheaper.
  • Under the new rule, the vehicle owner will be charged for the total distance travelled only if the distance covered is more than 20 kilometres on highways and expressways.

Trial done on these highways

The Ministry of Road Transport said in July that it has decided to implement satellite-based toll collection on selected national highways on a pilot basis as an additional facility with Fastag. This system has been trialed on the Bengaluru-Mysore section of NH-275 in Karnataka and the Panipat-Hisar section of NH-709 in Haryana.
