Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said many times that he will remove toll plazas from the roads in the coming years. Now NHAI is going to take a big initiative in this direction.

Applications have been sought from banks for the country’s first Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection on Dwarka Expressway. If this plan is successful, then the only toll plaza on Dwarka Expressway will also end. The bank will deduct money based on your vehicle data.

How will this system work?

NHAI’s new toll system will be based on sensors and field equipment. When vehicles pass through, it will send the data to the bank. After which the bank will deduct the money. After this system becomes effective, there will be no need for any other toll operator.

How will the banks work?

Indian banks have no experience in direct toll collection. In such a situation, NHAI’s subsidiary IHMCL (NHAI’s organization that looks after toll collection) has allowed the sub-contractor to complete this work. According to the tender, the sub-contractor should have at least 200 km and 10 years of experience in installing multi-lane free flow based toll system in India or abroad.

Will FastTag also end?

From what has come to light so far, it seems that FastTag will continue. The new system will collect information from the vehicle database and send it to the bank. The bank will deduct money from the FastTag wallet. If you do not pay the toll, it will continue to show on the vehicle portal and app. Also, payment of outstanding amount for NOC and fitness certificate will be mandatory.

Will the only toll of Dwarka Expressway be abolished?

There is a toll on the Delhi-Gurgaon border on the 28 km long Dwarka Expressway. Vehicles have to pay toll only when they pass through this toll. But after the implementation of this new system, the situation will change. Let us tell you, the successful bidder will get a contract of 3 years. At the same time, they will have to install their system within 3 months.

NHAI is preparing to install multi-lane free flow system on many more expressways. The organization believes that since banks are under the supervision of Reserve Bank of India, the system there will be more transparent.
