Recently, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the agency that maintains and rules for the expressway, has issued a notification that the speed limit rule will be implemented on the expressway soon.

Currently, the speed limit for light vehicles like cars and two-wheelers on the expressway is 100 kmph. It will be reduced to less from 15 December. Explain that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents due to fog.

What is the new speed limit?

The authority has said that while the speed limit for light vehicles will be reduced to 80 km per hour, the speed limit for heavy vehicles like trucks and buses will be reduced to 60 km per hour. The new traffic rule will come into effect from December 15 and will run till February 15 next year. The authority said, “We have decided to reduce the speed limit for light and heavy vehicles on the Yamuna Expressway for the safety of commuters. Driving becomes a bit safer with lower speeds”

YEIDA Chief Executive Officer Arun Vir Singh said that breaking the speed limit would be an offence, punishable with a fine of up to ₹2,000.

The authority is also taking measures to prevent fatalities on the expressway by asking toll operators to install crash barriers between Greater Noida and Agra at the earliest.
