Special Leave for Central Government Staff: There is good news for central government employees. If you donate organs, you will be given 42 days of extra leave.

The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) has said that central government employees who donate organs will get these leaves. According to NOTTO chief Dr. Anil Kumar, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has already issued orders. He said that we have recently put the orders on our website for wide dissemination and awareness.

Central employees will get 42 days special leave

Removing an organ from a donor is a major surgery. It requires a lot of hospitalisation and recovery time after discharge. The DoPT order said that the government has decided to grant special casual leave for a maximum period of 42 days to central government employees who decide to donate their organs as a special welfare measure.

Know what are the rules of leave

The DoPT order states that the 42-day leave rule will apply irrespective of the type of surgery for removal of the donor’s organ. The order states that special casual leave will normally be availed in one go from the day of hospitalisation. However, if required, it can be availed a maximum of one week prior to the surgery on the recommendation of a government registered medical practitioner or a doctor.
