Indian Railways News: The Railway Ministry had stopped the fare concession given to senior citizens during the Corona period. After that, demands were made by different organizations to restore the fare concessions.
Not only this, the issue of discount in rail fare was also raised by the opposition MPs in the Parliament. But now the government has taken a decision regarding this. According to the news published in Dainik Bhaskar, the discount given to passengers in rail fare will not be restored.
Decision after considering the demand
It was told in the news that many organizations and committees have taken this decision after considering the demands made by the people. After this, it was decided by the Railways that except in some special cases, no passenger will be given exemption in railway fare. The Railways’ argument behind not reinstating the discount is that the fare subsidy will continue as before. But it will not be possible to give additional relaxation.
Ticket worth Rs 100 for Rs 55:
Recently, the Railway Minister had also said during a program that Railways is providing tickets worth Rs 100 to the passengers for Rs 55. He had said that Railways is already giving subsidized tickets. After this, it has become clear that the concessions given before 2020 to other categories including senior citizens will not be started in future also. Before Corona, till March 2020, fare concession was given to women above 58 years of age and men above 60 years of age.
This discount was stopped by the Railways from 2020. On this, parliamentary committees, different organizations and MPs had recommended restoring the exemption. However, it has been decided by the Railways that passengers suffering from some serious diseases like cancer etc. will continue to get fare concessions. Railways says that the facilities will be increased in the coming times. Like elderly people and women will get lower berths on priority basis without paying extra fare.
