e-Shram Card: When Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the country’s general budget in Parliament on February 1, many big announcements were made for people of all classes. One of these announcements of the Finance Minister was also about gig workers.

During the budget, arrangements were made to register ‘gig workers’ on the e-shram portal. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in the budget speech that about 1 crore gig workers will directly benefit from the facility of registration on the e-shram portal.

Gig workers will benefit

Let us tell you that gig workers include shop helpers, auto drivers, drivers, puncture repairers, shepherds, dairy owners, cattle farmers, paper hawkers, and delivery boys of Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, Flipkart, among many others. Gig workers are people who do temporary work and change their job when they get better opportunities. For example, people working on apps like Swiggy, Zomato and Uber are gig workers. All these people can now get e-shram cards made. At the same time, after the announcement of registration on the e-shram portal in the budget speech, now the big question is how can workers register?

Let us tell you that registration on the e-shram portal can be done both ways i.e. online and offline. Gig workers can register themselves by visiting the e-shram portal https://eshram.gov.in/. After registration, they will also be given a card.

e-Shram Card Registration: How to Apply Online?

The application for the e-Shram card can be made through the CSC (Common Service Centre) or the e-Shram portal. The eligible persons can visit the nearest CSC centre and apply for the e-Shram card. They can locate the nearest CSC centre on the e-Shram Portal by entering the state and district for applying for the e-Shram card.

The process of filing the application for obtaining the e-Shram card online is as follows:

Step 1: Visit the e-Shram portal (Self-registration page).

Step 2: Enter the Aadhaar linked mobile number and the captcha code and click on the ‘Send OTP’ button.

Step 3: Enter your Aadhaar number, tick the terms and conditions and enter the OTP sent to the mobile number. Click on the ‘Validate’ button.

Step 4: Confirm the personal details that appear on the screen.

Step 5: Enter the required details, such as address, educational qualifications, etc.

Step 6: Select the skill name, nature of business and the type of work.

Step 7: Enter the bank details and select the self-declaration.

Step 8: Click on the ‘Preview’ option to verify the details entered and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 9: An OTP will be sent to the mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on the ‘Verify’ button.

Step 10: The e-Shram card is generated and displayed on the screen.

The e-Shram card can also be downloaded by clicking on the download option.

Documents Required for e-Shram Card

  • Aadhaar card.
  • Mobile number linked with Aadhaar card.
  • Bank account.

How to Download e-Shram Card?

After filing the application to obtain the e-Shram card, follow the below process to download the e-Shram card:

  1. Visit the e-Shram portal.
  2. Click on the ‘Already Registered’ tab and select the ‘Update Profile Using UAN’ option.
  3. Enter the UAN number, date of birth, captcha code and click on the ‘Generate OTP’ button.
  4. Enter the OTP received on the mobile number and click on the ‘Validate’ button.
  5. Confirm the personal details that appear on the screen.
  6. Click on the ‘Preview’ option to verify the details entered, and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  7. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on the ‘Verify’ button.
  8. The e-Shram card is generated and displayed on the screen.
  9. The e-Shram card can also be downloaded by clicking on the download option.
