Seat Belt Clip Sale Ban: Not wearing seat belt while traveling by car in India is a major cause of deaths in road accidents.
According to a government report, this figure of deaths in 2021 was more than 16,000. Still most of the drivers and passengers still avoid using it. Despite this, companies are also providing alarm facility for not using seat belts in their vehicles.
One is not to use seat belt while traveling by car, making it even more risky, people use seat belt clip and seat belt alarm stopper to silence the seat belt alarm. Whose sales are being done by many online e-commerce companies in large numbers.
According to the recent order issued by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), five major e-commerce platforms in India have been asked to stop selling seat belt alarm stopper clips. Because of which the life and safety of the customers who buy them are in danger. Apart from this, selling fake seat belt clips is a direct violation of the Consumer Protection Act 2019. This order has been issued in view of the tremendous sales of this device on the e-commerce website.
As a result, following the order of CCPA, all the five e-commerce platforms have submitted their reports. Also, 13, 118 fake seatbelt or seat belt alarm stoppers listed on these platforms have been removed. Along with danger to life, using these devices can also be harmful for such customers, who are demanding claims from the insurance company. If insurance companies find fake seat belt clip in the vehicle as evidence. So the company can reject it citing the negligence of the insurance claimant.
