Rain Alert 16 October: The weather has changed in many states of South India. Schools and colleges have been closed due to heavy rains. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rains in Karnataka, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Holiday has been declared in schools and colleges in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Work from home has been issued for employees of IT companies.
Due to the continuous rain in Karnataka since Tuesday morning, life in the central and southern parts of the state including the capital Bengaluru has been disrupted. Due to continuous rain, people also had to face waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas.
Due to heavy rains, motorists faced problems on most of the roads in the city. Many roads were inundated due to rain in Varthur, Hebbal, Kadubeesanahalli and surrounding areas. Areas with major technology companies like Manyata Tech Park on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and technology hubs like Sarjapur were also affected by the rains.
Officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that this rain is happening due to the low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal. They said that similar weather will prevail in the dry areas of the northern parts of the state during the next 24 hours. An official said, ‘This situation will remain for the next three to four days.’
Students and office goers are facing a lot of trouble due to traffic jams in Bengaluru due to rain. Apart from coastal Karnataka, IMD has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Tumkuru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kolar, Shivamogga and Chikkaballapur districts. This warning indicates deteriorating weather conditions and life may be affected here.
