Due to continuous rain and snowfall in the districts of Jammu and Kashmir for the last 36 hours, the temperature has dropped drastically. There has been heavy snowfall here. In view of the bad weather, school holidays have been extended. According to the information, the opening of schools will be announced only after the weather conditions improve. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of children. Several feet of snow has accumulated in the areas of Kashmir. Traffic has also been disrupted due to heavy snowfall.
Heavy snowfall on the mountains
There was drought in Kashmir for two months, neither it rained nor snowed. The situation was such that the rivers were yearning for a drop of water, they were dry but nature did such a miracle that not only did it rain in a week, but there is heavy snowfall on the mountains as well. The weather has changed once again in Uttarakhand. It has been raining since morning in the lower areas of the state, while snowfall continues in the high mountain areas. There is continuous snowfall in Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. 100.4 mm of rain has been recorded in Banihal area of Jammu and Kashmir, apart from this, 83.0 mm rain has been recorded in Muzaffarabad and 77.4 mm in Jammu.
The Meteorological Department has also released fresh satellite images, in which it can be seen how a thick blanket of clouds has covered North India. According to the forecast, heavy snowfall is occurring in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and more snowfall is expected by tomorrow morning. Snowfall has also occurred at Rajdan Top in Bandipora, Sadhna Top in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, Handwara and Kupwara and Mughal Road in Shopian.
