MP Salary Hike : The Central Government has issued a notification regarding the increase in the salary, daily allowance and pension of the Members of Parliament.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, this revised salary scale will be effective from April 1, 2023. Keeping in view the inflation, the Central Government has revised the salary and pension of the Members under the Salary, Allowances and Pension Act, 1954.
Now, talking about salary and allowances, earlier MPs used to get a salary of Rs 1,00,000 and now it has been increased to Rs 1,24,000. Similarly, the daily allowance has also been increased. It has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500. The monthly pension for MPs and former members has been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 31,000. Not only this, the additional pension was earlier Rs 2,000 per month, which has been increased to Rs 2,500 per month.
Inflation has increased in the last 5 years.
The government has increased the salary keeping in mind the inflation (Cost Inflation Index), which will help the MPs a lot. On this, the government says that this salary increase has been made in view of the increasing inflation in the last 5 years. This change has been made on the basis of the inflation rate and cost index determined by the RBI. Current and former MPs will get the benefit of this.
Karnataka Assembly
The move comes days after the Karnataka government approved a 100 percent hike in the salaries of the Chief Minister, ministers and MLAs, leading to a heated debate in the Assembly. The decision regarding the salary hike was taken through two amendment bills – the Karnataka Ministers’ Salary and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Members’ Salary, Pension and Allowances Bill, 2025.
