Rupees 2000 Note : 2000 rupee notes will not be able to be exchanged on Monday, January 22. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on January 19 said that due to half-day closure of government offices, the service of exchange and deposit of Rs 2000 bank notes will not be available on Monday, January 22, 2024.
However, the facility to exchange notes will resume on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. RBI said in a statement that due to the half-day holiday declared by the Government of India, 19 local offices of the Reserve Bank of India will not be able to exchange Rs 2000 notes.

According to RBI’s response to the question, people will have to fill an application form which is available online and send the notes to the RBI issuing office through any service of Indian Post. In May last year, the apex bank had announced its decision to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes, which were introduced for the first time after demonetisation in 2016.

RBI also said that a separate line has been set up for those who exchange small number of currency notes like someone who has only 2-3 notes. So that they don’t have to wait long. Waiting lounges have also been created in the regional office. RBI had given time till September 30 to the common people to exchange notes, which was later extended till October 7. Now common people can exchange Rs 2000 notes only in the regional offices specified by RBI.

The list of 19 RBI offices for exchanging bank notes are Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
