The Modi government of the Center has placed 70 lakh lakh card holders who have benefited under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the list of suspects. Also, this data has been shared with the states for ground verification. 4.74 crore ration cards have been canceled, it will be known whether the names who have been included in the list of doubtful are eligible to get ration under NFSA or not.
Giving information about this, Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said that between 2013 and 2021, 4.74 crore ration cards have been canceled. Similarly, this time 70 lakh ration card holders have been kept in the list of suspects. Work is being done to collect the correct information about this data.
New ones have been added in place of canceled cards, Pandey said, adding that if 50 to 60 percent of these 70 lakhs are found to be wrong, then new characters will be given a chance in their place. It is a continuous process.
He said that about 19 crore people were benefitted from 4.74 crore ration cards canceled in the last 9 years. After the cancellation of these ration cards, the names of new characters were added in their place. The continuous process run by the government, he told about this process that today a person may be eligible for the government’s ration scheme.
But tomorrow he will not be eligible for it due to the improvement in the economic situation. It may be that his name should be removed from the list and someone else may be given a chance in his place.
According to the data shared by the Food Ministry, the highest number of ration cards were canceled in 2016,
4.74 crore ration cards were canceled by the states and union territories in the last 9 years. In the year 2016, more than 84 lakh ration cards were cancelled. This was the highest number of cards canceled in a year during the last 9 years. During the Kovid epidemic, 46 lakh ration cards were canceled in the year 2020 and 2021.
Let us tell you that the maximum number of 4.74 crore ration cards canceled in 9 years were from UP. In UP alone, 1.73 ration cards were canceled during this period. After this, 68.62 lakh ration cards were canceled in West Bengal and 42.66 lakh in Maharashtra.
