Actually, the Uttar Pradesh government has divided the ration card into three categories according to the financial condition of the families.
1- BPL (Below Poverty Line): The government has included those families in the card whose annual income is less than the poverty line set by the government. These people get ration card at a low price from the government.
2- APL (Above Poverty Line): In this category of ration card, those families are included whose income is above the poverty line. But the government also gives ration under subsidy to the people of this category.
3- Antyodaya Ration Card: Extremely poor and needy people are included in this category. The government provides ration to these people at very concessional rates.
