The month of October is full of festivals and holidays. Many major festivals of Hinduism are celebrated this month, such as Navratri, Durga Puja, Karva Chauth, and Diwali at the end of the month.
Apart from this, the birth anniversaries of great men are also celebrated this month, such as Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti. The state government has declared a holiday on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti on October 17. All schools will remain closed on this occasion.
In fact, Punjab has declared a public holiday on October 17 on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti. On this day, all schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed across the state. This holiday has been declared for all citizens in honor of Valmiki Jayanti.
The Uttar Pradesh government has also announced several consecutive days of holidays later this month, in which government offices, banks and schools will remain closed. Apart from the weekly holidays on Saturday and Sunday, there will also be public holidays.

- October 12 (Saturday): Vijayadashami (Dussehra) – On this day, Ravana Dahan takes place, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. All government offices, banks, and schools will observe a public holiday.
- October 17 (Thursday): Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti – The state government has declared a public holiday on this day. All schools will remain closed on this day.
- October 30 to November 3: Continuous holidays have been declared.
- October 30 (Wednesday): Narak Chaturdashi
- October 31 (Thursday): Deepawali, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Acharya Narendra Dev Jayanti
- November 1 to November 3: Govardhan Puja, Bhaiya Dooj, and Chitragupta Jayanti
