Public Holidays 2025: The Uttar Pradesh government has released the list of official holidays for schools and government offices for the year 2025. It includes 24 general holidays and 31 optional holidays.

Out of the 24 general holidays this year, Holi and Republic Day are going to fall on Saturday. Due to this, government employees are not going to get much benefit of additional holidays.

General Holidays

General holidays include all holidays on which all government offices and schools will remain closed compulsorily.

List of General Holidays 2025.

  • January 26 – Republic Day (Saturday)
  • March 29 – Holi (Saturday)
  • 14 April – Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti (Monday)
  • May 1 – Labor Day (Thursday)
  • August 15 – Independence Day (Friday)
  • August 22 – Eid ul-Adha (Friday)
  • October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti (Thursday)
  • October 23 – Dussehra (Thursday)
  • November 12 – Diwali (Wednesday)
  • November 13 – Govardhan Puja (Thursday)
  • November 14 – Children’s Day (Friday)
  • December 25 – Christmas (Thursday)
  • December 31 – New Year’s Eve (Wednesday)

Optional holidays

Optional holidays are optional. Schools and offices can choose these holidays as per their requirements. These include holidays of cultural, religious and historical importance. The optional holidays in Uttar Pradesh in 2025 are given below. Government employees can take any 2 of these holidays.

  • January 15 – Makar Sankranti (Wednesday)
  • February 19 – Mahashivratri (Wednesday)
  • April 9 – Ram Navami (Wednesday)
  • May 5 – Buddha Purnima (Monday)
  • July 30 – Muharram (Wednesday)
  • 5 August – Raksha Bandhan (Tuesday)
  • September 17 – Ganesh Chaturthi (Wednesday)
  • October 21 – Karva Chauth (Tuesday)
  • November 4 – Karva Chauth (Tuesday)
  • November 28 – Id-e-Milad (Thursday)
  • December 18 – Geeta Jayanti (Wednesday)

These holidays will be on Saturday and Sunday

The government has clearly said that there will be no separate holiday for holidays falling on Saturday and Sunday. In the year 2025, 26 January i.e. Republic Day holiday and Holi are falling on Saturday. Government or private employees are not going to get the benefit of these holidays.
