Two more government holidays are coming up in Punjab at the end of March. The state government has declared a holiday on Monday, March 31. This day is Eid-ul-Fitr. Due to this, the Punjab government has declared a holiday across the state.

Schools, colleges, offices and other educational institutions will remain closed on this day. It should be noted that March 31 is a Monday while March 30 is a Sunday, and due to this, there will be two consecutive holidays.

Every year, banks in the country remain closed on the occasion of Eid, but this time the RBI has taken a different step. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has instructed to keep it open on Monday, March 31, 2025. Banks will remain open even on Eid. These instructions will be applicable to all banks that handle government transactions. This decision has been taken by the RBI to properly settle the transactions of the financial year 2024-25.

Why was March 31 a holiday earlier?

Actually, banks were to remain closed in almost all states on March 31, 2025 due to Ramadan Eid (Eid-ul-Fitr). Banks will remain open only in Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram. But now the government has ordered banks to remain open to ensure smooth flow of financial transactions.

Bank holiday on April 1

Let us tell you that banks will remain closed in most states and union territories on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Like every year, it will be closed due to the annual closing of banks’ accounts and the beginning of the new financial year. However, banks will remain open on this day in Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh.
