Public Holiday: Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary (14 April 2025) is going to be recorded as an important day in the history of India, as the Modi government has declared this day as a public holiday across the country on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution and the great hero of social justice. This decision was taken by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India, which was issued on 27 March 2025 from North Block, New Delhi.
The decision was taken to salute the contribution of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, whose contribution to the upliftment of Indian society is incomparable. Babasaheb Ambedkar, who is revered as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, dedicated his entire life for equality in society, the fight against casteism and the rights of Dalits and underprivileged classes. His birth anniversary is celebrated on 14 April.
Holidays in government offices
On this special occasion, there will be a holiday in all central government offices across India on 14 April 2025 as it is a Monday. This holiday will apply not only to government offices but also to industrial establishments and other institutions. Along with this, instructions have been issued that this holiday should reach UPSC, CVC, National Commission for Scheduled Castes/Tribes, National Human Rights Commission, Central Information Commission, and other institutions, apart from central government offices, ministries and departments.
There will be holiday in schools and colleges too
This holiday will also be applicable to government schools and colleges, allowing students and teachers to participate in events and seminars to understand the life of Babasaheb Ambedkar and his social reforms. On this day, people will remember Dr. Ambedkar’s social revolution and honour his contributions through various cultural programmes, symposia, and events.
