While North India is getting a long weekend due to Sunday and second Saturday, South India can enjoy a week’s holiday due to Pongal.

Three important festivals will be celebrated on January 14 – Pongal, Makar Sankranti and Hazrat Ali’s birthday. Pongal is celebrated in South India with the worship of Sun God, traditional food and decorations. Makar Sankranti is celebrated with great pomp across India, which includes flying kites, eating sweets and spending time with family. Long holidays in North India

Many banks and offices will remain closed on January 11 as it is the second Saturday. January 12 is a Sunday holiday, and on January 13, Lohri holiday will be celebrated in states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. After this, holidays have been declared in many states on January 14 due to Makar Sankranti.

Holidays announced in Telangana and Tamil Nadu

The Telangana government has declared holidays in schools and government offices from January 13 to 17 on the occasion of Pongal. January 11 and 12 are already weekends, so state employees can enjoy a long weekend from January 13.

The Tamil Nadu government has also declared holidays from January 14 to 17 on the occasion of Pongal, which includes Pongal on January 14, Thiruvalluvar Day on January 15, and Uzhavar Thirunal on January 16. After this, an additional holiday has been declared on January 17.
