Public Holiday: All govt offices, educational institutions, banks and other public establishments will remain closed today

A public holiday has been declared on Wednesday (12 February 2025) in all the districts of Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti. The Yogi government has issued a notification in this regard.

In which it has been said that there will be a holiday in all government offices, independent bodies and public sector undertakings. The Yogi government had released a list of holidays on December 17 last year. In which Ravidas Jayanti was declared a holiday. State CM Yogi Adityanath has congratulated the people of the state on the occasion of Sant Ravidas Jayanti.

Science and Technology Minister Anil Kumar had written a letter to CM Yogi Adityanath appealing to declare a public holiday on Sant Ravidas Jayanti. He mentioned in the letter that for the last 20 years, local holiday has been declared on Ravidas Jayanti, but in the year 2024, this holiday was removed from the list. After this, the Yogi government decided to include Sant Ravidas Jayanti in the category of public holidays.

Know who was Sant Ravidas

Saint Ravidas was a famous saint poet. He was born in UP. His name is counted among the medieval saints. Saint Ravidas is also known as Raidas. Most people know him by the name of Raidas only. His main occupation was cobbler (shoemaker). Raidas was initiated in the saint tradition of Ramanand. Raidas is also considered one of the twelve disciples of Ramanand. Raidas’ ideology and principles are according to the tradition of saints. According to Saint Ravidas, the ultimate truth is truth, his knowledge was based on meditation and experience.

He was born on Magh Purnima day

It is believed that Ravidas ji was born on Magh Purnima in the year 1377 in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. For this reason, the festival of Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated with great joy on the auspicious date of Magh Purnima. His father used to work as a shoemaker. Guru Ravidas ji laid great emphasis on education and knowledge during his life.
