Why do we celebrate the festival of Janmashtami
Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna. He is considered the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is worshipped throughout India. Lord Krishna is said to have been born in a dungeon in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. He was born at midnight so according to tradition, Krishna Janmashtami puja is performed during Nishita Kaal, which falls around midnight. This year Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 26.
