Guidelines have been issued. The post office has talked about the benefits of the customers under this guideline. It has been said by the postal department that many post offices are not settling the death claims on time. Also, they are not following the necessary rules for death claim. In such a situation, the postal department has directed to settle the death claim immediately and said that any such case should be settled within the time limit.

These instructions have to be followed for death claim 

The department said that the post office will have to ensure settlement of deceased claim cases within the prescribed time limit. In the information issued by the Department of Posts on January 9, 2023, it has been said that it is necessary to follow certain rules for timely disposal of death claim cases.

  • KYC documents should be there during the death claim and it is necessary to get it verified in the post office.
  • Signatures of witnesses are also required on the copy of KYC documents. If the signature is not there, then the witness will have to go to the post office.
  • It is also necessary to provide the claimant’s signature, bank account and other documents.
  • It is mandatory to provide all the documents sought to settle the death claim, otherwise the money may stop.
  • Death claim can be made in just one day in case of nominee and within seven days in other case.

Legal documents to be given 

If the amount issued under any scheme is more than five lakh rupees and there is no nomination or nomination in that account, then it is necessary to give legal documents issued by the court. However, if the amount is five lakh rupees, then there is no need to provide any legal document for the death claim.
