PMAY Yojana 2.0: Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), the government has approved the construction of 3.53 lakh new houses. This approval was given by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC).
Under this scheme, houses will be built in 10 states/union territories namely Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. These houses will be built under Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) and Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP).
Who will get the benefit?
The main objective of this scheme is to provide houses to poor and needy families. This scheme is especially beneficial for women, senior citizens, transgender community, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
- Under this scheme, more than 2.67 lakh houses have been allotted to women only (single women and widows).
- Under this scheme, 90 houses have been allotted to people of the transgender community.
- For Scheduled Caste (SC): 80,850 houses were sanctioned.
- For Scheduled Tribes (ST): 15,928 houses were sanctioned.
- For OBC category: 2,12,603 ​​houses were sanctioned.
Special initiative of UP government
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced additional financial assistance for senior citizens and women: Under this, senior citizens above 70 years of age will be given assistance of ₹30,000. At the same time, unmarried women above 40 years of age, widows and separated women will be given assistance of ₹20,000.
Till now 118.64 lakh houses approved, construction of 92 lakh houses completed
PMAY-Urban scheme was launched in 2015. So far 118.64 lakh houses have been approved. Construction of 92 lakh houses has been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries. ‘Housing for All’ mission was launched to provide the benefits of the scheme to 1 crore new beneficiaries in urban areas across the country from 1 September 2024.
