Passport is an essential document for those traveling abroad for job, higher education, business meeting, medical emergency, or family trip.
Over the years, the need for passports has increased with a positive response to increasing globalization and growth of the economy. As much as these documents are necessary for adults, it is also necessary for minor children traveling with parents. According to the updated guideline of the Government of India, a child should have his own passport, and it is not mandatory for his name to be registered in the passport of his parents.
How to apply for minor’s passport
- One has to login with the registered ID by visiting the Passport Services website. If you are not already registered, then create a new ID and password.
- Click on ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-Issue of Passport’ available on the home page of the website. Please tell that before applying in the fresh passport category, you have to tell that you do not have another passport.
- Submit after filling the required details and then click on the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ link.
- Make the online payment through Credit/Debit Card, Internet Banking and SBI Bank Challan.
- As per the website, online payment is mandatory for booking appointments at all PSKs/POPSKs/POs.
- You have to go to the Verification Passport Service Office.
keep these things in mind
- Parental consent is necessary in case of minor applying for passport.
- For the address proof of the minor, valid address proof of his parents will be required.
- Parents should take a self-attested copy of their passport to the Passport Service Center and also carry the original passport with them.
- All the necessary documents can be attested by the parents on behalf of the minor.
- Minor candidate can apply for Non-ECR, until he/she is 18 years old. ECNR stands for Immigration Check Not Required.
- Candidates who fall in ECR category will have their passport printed with ECR status. There will be no specific reference to people falling in the non-ECR category in the passport.
