OPS Resume: Employees of the central and state governments have been demanding the reinstatement of the old pension scheme for many years. There have been many agitations regarding this.
The opposition party Congress has promised this to the employees in many elections. Meanwhile, for the first time in the last 10 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the employees of the central government and employee representatives in the national level Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) of the Personnel Ministry. This issue will be discussed in detail.
The Personnel Ministry has invited JCM Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra and other members of the staff side of the JCM to meet the PM at the Prime Minister’s official residence on Saturday. The issue of restoring the old pension scheme is likely to be raised in the meeting.

Shiv Gopal Mishra told the English newspaper ‘The Hindu’ that the employee representatives had sought a meeting with PM Modi. He said, “We are in touch with the government on many issues. We also wanted to meet the Prime Minister on our issues.” He said that the restoration of the old pension scheme is an important issue that has not been resolved yet. We will also raise it before the Prime Minister.
The unions of employees of the central government and central public sector undertakings had earlier decided to go on an indefinite strike from May 1. It was deferred after discussions with the government. They are demanding restoration of the old pension scheme and stopping privatisation and corporatisation of public sector undertakings. The employees are also demanding the Centre to fill the existing posts in various departments.
