One Nation One Election Bill: During the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a committee was formed under the leadership of former President Ram Nath Kovind regarding One Nation One Election.

The committee had submitted its recommendations to the government in March, just before the Lok Sabha elections. The central government had accepted these recommendations some time ago. The committee has recommended in its report to hold elections in only two phases. According to the recommendation, Lok Sabha and assembly elections can be held in the first phase, while local body elections should be held in the second phase.

Big news has come out regarding One Nation, One Election. The Union Cabinet has approved the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill today, i.e. on Thursday. According to sources, the government may bring a comprehensive bill in this regard in the current winter session of Parliament. This latest development on One Nation One Election has come at a time when Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday strongly supported ‘One Nation, One Election’ and said that continuous elections are becoming an obstacle in the progress of the country.

According to sources, the government will soon present this bill in Parliament. After that, it will be discussed in detail. If sources are to be believed, the government has decided that it will be presented as a comprehensive bill. For this, the opinion of all parties will also be necessary, because it will bring about a big change. Therefore, it can first be sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee of Parliament. After this, it will have to be passed by the legislative assemblies. A constitutional amendment bill will come. Support from at least 50 percent of the states will be required. Article 327 will be amended and the words ‘one nation, one election’ will be added to it.
