The government has introduced ‘One Nation One Election’ in the Lok Sabha. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has introduced this bill. After the presentation of the bill, it is now being debated in the Lok Sabha.
Congress has termed this bill as an attack on the federal structure. Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav has also opposed this bill. The SP MP said that an attempt is being made to destroy the federal structure. Let us tell you that by making this bill a law, there is a provision to hold elections to the Lok Sabha and the assembly simultaneously.
For the first time, electronic division took place in the House regarding One Nation, One Nation. 220 MPs voted in favor of this bill. While 149 MPs opposed it. However, the process of division of votes is being done again later.
Amid the uproar in Parliament over the One Nation, One Election Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, ‘When the One Nation, One Election Bill came in the Cabinet, PM Modi said that it should be sent to a joint committee of Parliament.’ IUML leader ET Mohammad Bashir, Shiv Sena member Anil Desai strongly opposed the bill and demanded that it be withdrawn as soon as possible.

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule said that she opposed the “One Nation, One Election” bill and termed it as an attempt to centralise power at the cost of federalism and the Constitution. She urged the government to immediately withdraw the bill or send it to a joint parliamentary committee for further deliberations.
Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP has announced its ‘unwavering’ support for the One Nation, One Election Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha. The Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde faction has also supported the bill.
