The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said that Rs 2000 notes will be considered legal tender even after 30 September 2023. HDFC, SBI, PNB, South Indian Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank have issued clarification (How To Exchange Rs 2000 Notes) regarding note exchange.

According to the RBI’s circular issued on 22 May 2023, the facility of exchange of Rs 2000 notes over the counter of banks will be provided to the public in a normal manner. Keeping in view the summer season, RBI has also advised to provide proper infrastructure like shady waiting rooms, drinking water facilities etc. in the bank branches.

State Bank of India

The largest government bank State Bank of India ( SBI 2000 Notes Change Guideline) has said that it is allowing customers to change 10 notes of Rs 2000 i.e. up to Rs 20,000. No slip or form will be asked from the customers for this. SBI said that it has been decided that Rs. 2000/- to exchange bank notes in the denomination of Rs. 20000/- will be given without any demand slip.

Punjab National Bank

According to a representative of Punjab National Bank ( PNB 2000 Notes Exchange Rule), if you are exchanging Rs 2,000 notes, you do not need to present any government-issued identity document like Aadhaar card at the bank branch. Punjab National Bank has issued an official guideline saying that there is no need to fill any Aadhaar card, officially verified documents or any form, such instructions have been given to all branches of Punjab National Bank at present.

South Indian Bank

Note Exchange Limit

According to RBI, the limit for exchanging Rs 2000 notes at a time is Rs 20000. Means anyone can change 10 notes. This facility will continue till 30 September.
