PAN (Permanent Account Number) card is an important identity document issued by the Income Tax Department of India. It is required to open a bank account, pay taxes and take loans. This card is usually issued to adults, but minors (below 18 years of age) can also apply for it, especially for educational and financial purposes.

A minor’s PAN card application is made by his/her parents or legal guardian. The process is similar for adults, though some additional documents are required.

Online Application Process

  • Visit the NSDL website: NSDL PAN Service.
  • Select “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)” and select “Individual”.
  • Fill in the name of the minor, contact details of the parents and click on “Submit”.
  • Select the option to upload the required documents and select the physical PAN card if required.
  • Fill in the details of the minor and parents, then upload the documents.
  • Pay the application fee through debit card, credit card or net banking.
  • After making the payment, you will get an identification number.
  • If you have opted for submitting physical documents, send the documents to the Income Tax PAN Seva Unit located in Pune.

Documents required for minor PAN card

Proof of age: Aadhar card, birth certificate, passport, or school marksheet.
Proof of address: Passport, voter ID, Aadhar card, or utility bill less than 3 months old.

Offline Application Process

  • Download Form 49A from the NSDL website.
  • Fill all the required details correctly.
  • Attach documents like identity proof, address proof, birth proof, and two passport size photographs.
  • Submit it to the nearest PAN center (TIN Suvidha Kendra) and pay the application fee.
