After this decision of the Central Government, the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana started getting subsidy of Rs 400.
If sources are to be believed, the Central Government is committed to improving the average per capita consumption in the country under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. In this context, the Central Government may take a decision to further increase the subsidy amount of Rs 300 to poor families.
Let us tell you that the beneficiaries covered under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana get 14.4 kg LPG cylinder for Rs 603 in Delhi. At the same time, the price of non-subsidized LPG cylinder in the country is currently around Rs 1200, which is making the common people uneasy.
Let us tell you that without subsidy, LPG cylinder is available at Rs 1140 in Lucknow, Rs 1103 in Delhi, Rs 1201 in Patna, Rs 1106 in Jaipur, Rs 1110 in Ahmedabad and Rs 1102 in Mumbai. However, these prices are much lower than India’s neighboring countries Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
There may be a big announcement regarding LPG
Recently, BJP had guaranteed the price of cylinder to Rs 500 in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. However, this election promise has not been implemented yet. But, in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, there is talk of reducing the prices of gas cylinders very soon.
At present the number of LPG consumers in the country is around 33 crores. Last year itself, the Central Government had approved the plan to release 75 lakh more LPG connections by the year 2025-26.
Let us tell you that many state governments have also started giving subsidy on LPG in addition to the subsidy of the Central Government. Last year itself, in Diwali, the UP Yogi government had announced to provide free domestic cylinders to 1.75 crore families twice a year to further empower the domestic women.
In the Rajasthan elections, BJP had talked about giving LPG cylinders for Rs 450 in the election campaigns. However, in response to a question in Rajya Sabha recently, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Department, Ramesh war Teli had said that the Central Government had not made any such promise in Rajasthan nor does the government intend to bring any such scheme.
At the same time, among the 10 priorities of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, providing gas cylinders for poor families of the state at Rs 450 is also included in these priorities.
