The Yogi Adityanath government has taken a big decision regarding liquor in Uttar Pradesh. The government has made many important changes in the excise policy. Under which now all types of liquor, Indian and foreign, beer, all will be available at one place.
In the new policy, these shops will be licensed through e-lottery system. Renewal of old licenses has also been stopped now. The new Excise Policy 2025-26 has been approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath. Soon the government will allocate shops afresh through lottery.
There has been no lottery for liquor shops in the state for 7 years. Since then, old shops were being renewed. There is good news for those who are fond of drinking liquor and beer, now they will not have to go to different shops to buy desi liquor, foreign liquor and beer.
The license system has changed
According to media reports, according to sources, now the government will conduct a new lottery. Along with this, like other states including Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, it has also been decided to allocate composite shops here. The shopkeeper will have to keep 10 percent more liquor in stock than the monthly revenue of the shop last year. Along with this, it will also have to be consumed. Through the new excise policy, the state government has set a target of raising revenue of Rs 55000 crore. This is Rs 4000 crore more than last time. In this, there will be an annual fee of Rs 25 lakh for renewal of license of premium retail shops. No person, firm or company will be able to take more than two licenses.

The cabinet has also fixed the license fee for liquor shops. In Gautam Buddha Nagar Development Authority, Ghaziabad, Agra, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Lucknow Municipal Corporations the fees have been fixed at Rs 65,000, Rs 90,000 for composite shop, Rs 1 lakh for model shop, up to three km outside the limits of other municipal corporations except category one, desi Rs 60,000, composite Rs 85,000, model shop Rs 90,000, in Nagar Panchayats desi Rs 50,000, composite Rs 65,000, model shop Rs 70,000, in rural areas desi Rs 40,000, composite Rs 55,000 and Rs 60,000 for model shop.
Liquor will become expensive from April
The change in license policy and fee hike may come as a big shock to liquor lovers in Uttar Pradesh. It is being speculated that the prices of liquor may increase due to this policy of the government.
