The government can take your land
In India, land acquisition is done by the government for public welfare projects under special circumstances. Like building a road, doing some work on the railway, building an airport or any work related to a power plant. If there is any such public welfare project, then under such special circumstances, the government can occupy your land. It can take over it.
However, for this, some rules have also been made under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013. So that the public does not suffer any loss. When land is acquired, the government has to pay proper compensation to the land owner. The government pays compensation to the land owner in exchange for his land according to the market rate.
How is land acquired?
When the government starts a public welfare project, which includes building a road, a hospital, a school or any work related to railways, the government can take your land. But in such cases, the government announces in advance that your land will be used in this project. And a notice is also given to you by the government. If you have any objection to this, you can register your objection.
For this you are also given a time limit. If the objection is found to be correct then the case can be decided in favour of the land owner. Apart from this, if there is any problem regarding compensation or acquisition, then an appeal can also be made in the court. If the court finds the acquisition to be illegal then it can also cancel the acquisition.
